Back in the water...

When I first arrived in Sawankhalok, I became a member of a swimming pool just outside of town...but then I got a terrible ear infection that put me out of swimming commission for two months. Well, starting yesterday, I am back in the water! One of my New Year's resolutions is to swim once a week during the next few months in my town. It is great exercise - plus such a wonderful time to reflect and regroup after a day of teaching. Maybe by writing it in this blog, I will actually keep to this resolution?!

It is Friday afternoon and I have one more class before the weekend. It is a tenth grade class and probably one of the toughest ones for me to teach. Disciple is definitely not my strong point, which is usually okay since the students seem to do better in a more relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. But with this tenth grade class...it is so tough because some of the students talk almost the whole time (and in Thai, not English!). Having 50 students in a class makes it difficult too because even though most of the students are awesome...the ones who misbehave have such an overwhelming presence. I guess this is something teachers struggle with everywhere?! I'm sure having our class last period on Friday doesn't help the situation!

I think this weekend will consist of taking care of chores (laundry, sweeping, cleaning the bathroom, etc), relaxing (reading books, taking naps, watching movies, playing badminton), organizing (making new lesson plans), tutoring (on Saturdays I tutor two nine-year old boys at the local pharmacy), and adventuring (on Sunday, a teacher is taking me around the town/province/area).

But, as I have learned from experience, who really knows what will happen this weekend! Arai Gadai! I'm up for whatever!

I would love to hear from you!
Thinking of you!
Kate
