Hello from Hanoi, Vietnam!
We (Karen, Alex, Zoe, and I) arrived in the capital city on Tuesday evening...and we've been having quite the adventure ever since! On Wednesday we strolled over to Ho Chi Minh's complex - including a museum and mauseloum. And then we went to the Temple of Literature which was just a lovely place. Following a delicious meal of Pho, we made our way to the Ethnology Museum and learned some more history about Vietnam and about the people in this country. Today, Thursday, we took a tour to the Perfume Pagoda. After an epic mini bus ride, and a relaxing boat ride, we arrived at the base of Huong Tich Mountain and climbed 4kms to the main pagoda area built into the limestone cliffs of the mountain.
Now I am sitting in the guesthouse in Hanoi listening to the sound of honking horns...it is amazing how frequently people use their motorcycle and car horns here. But, considering that there aren't really traffic lights - the horns help facilitate an "organized chaos" of sorts. I think you might have to experience it to really believe it!
Tomorrow we are doing some more activities around Hanoi, and then in the evening we are taking a night train to Sapa in northern Vietnam. Should be beautiful!
Thinking of you!
