Hello! After a quite long break from blogging, I'm back! I actually returned from my trip up north about a week ago...but I had the misfortune (or maybe fortune) to get the flu and be stuck in bed for a week. I say "maybe fortune" because looking back on my sickness, I can now say it was another opportunity for me to really experience Thailand and particularly the Thai health care system. (While I was sick, though, I wasn't as optimistic and positive about the whole ordeal!)
It was the usual flu (headache, fever, aches, and you know the rest). Many teachers went out of their way to help me, and they particularly wanted to make sure I was eating. I appreciate their help so much (though rice, fried eggs, and vegetables was just about the last thing I wanted to eat). I tried to explain to the teachers that usually I eat crackers and such on an upset stomach...but they had a hard time understanding this.
After a few days of being sick, I finally went to the hospital which was an experience. My whole visit cost less than 6 dollars and that includes the medicines I was prescribed. I told my teacher that in the U.S., it would cost you a lot more than that!
Anyways...it is so great to feel better and to be back teaching!
Now I will get back to posting about my trip!
